• Soooo, they've decided to get creative with their bored moments and invent 'Nag, Whinge and Cry like a baby Ware'

• Well, a few days ago Windows users turned on their jolly old 'puters to be presented with a new 'Security Upgrade' from the oh so handy Windows update.

• This update however was slightly naughtily sneaked under most people radar due to the fact we trust our man Bill Gates like no other, he would never install something on our beloved work tools that we didn't like or need or... or... that was... Nasty!... would he?

• Follow this Step by Step Recipe,

• He would, He did.
  The 'Windows Genuine Advantage' checks to see if your copy of Windows XP has an Unique serial number and undeniable Authenticity, then proceeds to Whine, Whinge, nag, and bother you in all sorts of ways that delay you a little more each and every day you refuse to give bill money.

1) Allow 'Windows Genuine Advantage' Notification to install.(well i guess you wouldn't be here if you hadn't completed that step!

• Yes. I realise there was nothing technical in that explanation whatsoever.. No need, everyone else will tell you the blah de blah...

2) Search the registry for "Windows Genuine Advantage" This
should get you to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{17492023-C23A-453E-A040-C7C580BBF700}.
Look for InProcServer32 key that has legitcheckcontrol.dll
rename the key to anything...say: legitcheckcontrol.dll.bak

Note: Modifying this key will disable WgaTray.exe on next
reboot and allow you to use Windows Update without any
hassles, reinstall issues or needing a hacked DLL.

3) The third part is to disable the logon and shutdown nag screens.
Follow this process (modified from the above):

a. In explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options.
Then, go to View > Advanced Settings and
uncheck "Use simple file sharing". Hit OK.

Can't See the Security Tab? Not to worry, make yourself a nice cup of tea, calm down a little, then try this: If you have unchecked the box or it was already but you don't
have a security tab when you right click a file,
check this box, hit OK, then uncheck the box
and hit OK. This will give you the security tab.

b. Now, let's change the permissions for WgaLogon.dll:
Search your windows directory for wgalogon.dll.
Right click on it, pick Properties. Go to Security.

c. Hit the Advanced button, oooh, Advanced, again, not to worry, , uncheck the Inherit box
at the bottom, hit the Copy button, then hit OK.

d. Go through each listed user/group and remove the
"Read & Execute" permission for that file, leaving
the "Read" permission as-is.

4) Restart the machine.

You have now Shut Bill The Fuck Up But additionally Bill has thought better of his earlier outbursts and is now prepared to allow you to continue receiving his helpful little updates..... For Now.
